2017 Honorees

Geri Peterkin

After migrating with her parents to Toronto, Canada at age 11, and attending high school there, Geri moved to New York City in 1966 where she began college studies while working at the United Nations.  She later became a Paralegal working at several prestigious NY law firms.  Mesmerized by the warm tropical breeze that greeted her during a winter vacation in Florida, Geri decided that Florida would be her new home.  She moved to South Florida in 1979 where she has resided ever since.

Dr. Germaine Smith-Baugh

Since 2006, Dr. Germaine Smith-Baugh has served as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Urban League of Broward County. She was appointed as the only woman and the youngest administrator to lead a Florida affiliate of the National Urban League, a historic civil rights organization dedicated to securing economic self-reliance, parity, power, and civil rights.

 Mr. Cadet is best known for being Courageous, Determined, and Enthusiastic.  More than three decades ago, he suffered an incident which prompted him to seek other employment to take care of his family.  Mr. Cadet became a taxicab driver.

Janice McIntosh is the Chief Representative Officer for the JN Bank in Tamarac, Florida. She joined the organization in Kingston, Jamaica some twelve years ago as the Promotions & Sales Manager where she was part of the team that helped create a sales culture in the organization and is a certified trainer with Schneider Sales Inc. USA.

Ms. Brown is a 1985 Computer Science graduate of the University of the West Indies, Jamaica and a 1997 MBA graduate of the University of Rochester Simon School in Rochester, NY where she majored in Information Systems, Corporate Finance, and Accounting.

Congressman Alcee L. Hastings

Alcee L. Hastings represents his native state of Florida by serving as Congressman for District 20, which includes parts of Broward, Palm Beach, and Hendry Counties. Congressman Hastings was first elected in 1992 and is currently serving his 11th term in the Congress. Born in Altamonte Springs, he attended Florida's public schools, and graduated from Fisk University in 1958. He earned his law degree from Florida A&M University in Tallahassee.
